HT Arts Electives for 2014 - 2015 School Year!

Students are in the middle of their course registration process for the 2014-2015 school year. Here is a short video that showcases the Visual and Performing Arts electives that students can choose from. Email Karen Kiick with any questions.

Mid-Term Requirements

The Postcard Project: "50 Artists Everyone Should Know"

The postcard will be created during the class exam period. Students must come prepared to create their postcard inspired by, and written to, the artist they researched.  Click here to download the assignment and grading rubric.

3 Blog Posts due by midnight January 22.

All 3 posts equal One Assignment Grade. Include photo(s) in each post.

• Pop Print

Discuss the process and the experience you had working on your Pop Prints. Explain your reasons behind the item you chose to reproduce, and your overall reaction to printing in mass-production.

• Art x 3

Discuss the process and the experiences you had working on something that you had to “let go” twice and the reactions you experienced working to finish something that you didn’t start. What life lesson did you take away from this experience?

• Fortune Cookie Inspired Book Page

Discuss the process and the experiences you had creating a book page inspired by a fortune cookie(s). How did you get your ideas from what you were given? Describe what your work represents.

Celebrity Collaborations

Building off the theme "Celebrity", the students embarked on a collaborative art making adventure. Each student began a piece based on the theme, and worked on it for two class periods and then switched! And then the students worked on someone else's for two more class periods... and switched again!! The students had to resolve the piece that they received on the third rotation to call "their own".

Students did not work on a piece that was started by someone in the same class period and no one finished the piece they originally began. Here are some of our Art x 3 collaborations. Click here to see more student work. Read the post below to learn more about the assignment.

Art x 3 = U

All 95 of the Creative Arts students are currently participating in a collaborative art making experience around the theme: celebrity. Art x 3 = U will result in a collaborative work of art that is created by the combined aesthetic decisions and contributions of three different students who are known to each other only as a number.

As a reflective aspect of this assignment, students will comment on ONE of the following questions.

1. How does the media (television, internet, magazines etc...) influence what we do or who we become? 

2. Compare creating art in this collaborative way with how we respond to the media and pop culture in our everyday lives.

3. Is there any value in caring about things or people who don’t know or care about you?

4. Reflect on this collaborative activity and the emotions you experienced through the process. Describe any morals or life lessons that you can take from it.

Pop Culture in the Hue of Blue

After our introduction to Andy Warhol's Time Capsules and artists who collect, each student was asked to select a color. The winner was blue! Inspired by artist, Portia Munson, we each contributed 2 blue items for our class collection. (Many of these pieces of our human life are showing up in our Pop Art Prints.) My students wrote a blog post about what our collection reveals (or doesn't reveal) about us. Check out the links on the right.
